How do I Build a Wooden Loft Desk?

Loft desks are admirable due to their sleek and open appearance. They are a much simpler choice for desks and provide enough storage for basic desk needs. Individuals use loft desks for computer stations, writing stations, and work areas inside their home as they are extremely easy to maintain. A loft desk will last for many years of use, even though it takes a short amount of time to build.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint all sections of plywood. Painting needs to be completed first as waiting to finish the desk may cause difficulty in reaching some locations completely.

    • 2

Apply wood glue to the 25-inch edges on the 25-by-16-½-inch section of wood. Firmly press one 25-inch by 30-inch section of wood along each side, lining up the two 25-inch edges to create a U-shape structure. Drive one nail every 12 inches along each edge to create a permanent joint between the two sides and the base board.

    • 3

Lay the U-shape structure on the side edges with the 25-by-16 ½ inch wood standing vertically in the air. Apply wood glue along the top 25-inch edges and stand the 25-inch by 48-inch section of plywood along the 48-inch edge directly in front of it.

    • 4

Press the U-shape structure to the plywood section, lining up one 25-inch wood edge with the bottom of the 25-inch edge on the 25-by-48 plywood. Drive one nail every 12 inches along the top of the 25-by-48 section to join it to the U-shape structure.

    • 5

Apply wood glue to the 25-inch edge of the remaining 25-by-30 plywood section and press it along the bottom of the 25-inch edge on the 25-by-48 plywood opposite to the side the U-shape structure is attached to.

    • 6

Drive one nail every 12 inches along the top of the plywood to join the two plywood pieces together. The desk can now be supported by all three leg supports, although it needs a back section for sturdiness. Place desk in standing position.

    • 7

Apply wood glue along all the edges on the back side of the desk. The back side is determined by whether you prefer the door for the desk storage to be on the left-or right-hand side.

    • 8

Place the 30 ¾-inch by 48 inch section of plywood on the back of the desk. Drive one nail through each corner, and every 12 inches along each glued edge to join the back section to the desk properly for support.

    • 9

Attach one hinge at 4 inches from each corner along the 30 inch edge of the 18-by-30 plywood section. Determine which side you want to be the front by preference of appearance, as the hinges will be placed along the back edge.

    • 10

Place the 18-by-30 section of wood in vertically along the edge of the outside board in the U-shape structure. If you chose the storage to be on the left-hand side, you place the door on the farthest board to the left.

    • 11

Open the hinges completely and attach them to the inner edge of the desk storage wall using ½-inch nails.

    • 12

Touch up any areas that become scuffed during the assembly process. Cover nail heads completely with paint for a more finished appearance.
