How to Make a Wooden Editing Desk

A wooden editing desk can be expensive to buy from a store and many people can save money by building their own. This also allows you to customize the size and height of the desk, making it truly how you want it to be. Unless you are an accomplished woodworker, it may not have the same look as a professional desk, but the personal touch may make it all the more special to you.

Things You'll Need

  • 4 wooden 2-by-4s
  • 3/4 inch wooden board 42-by-24 inches
  • 16 nails

Instructions

    • 1

Draw an "X" in each corner of the wooden board using a pencil. Each "X" will be the position of each leg, so ensure they are in corresponding positions.

    • 2

Place a leg so that it is underneath an "X." Hammer a nail through the top of the board to secure the leg in place. To make the desk more sturdy, do this with four nails and repeat the process for each leg.

    • 3

Test that the desk is sturdy by standing it on its legs. If it rocks or seems uneven, sand the longest leg until it is even.

    • 4

Fill in the nail holes with wood putty and sand down to make even.

    • 5

Remove any rough spots on the desk using sandpaper.

    • 6

Stain the desk any color you wish. This not only improves the look, it also helps to protect the wood.
