How to Fit a Desk Pad

Desk pads are designed to give a desk user comfort and to aesthetically enhance the desk itself. Some desk pads come with calendars and others with mouse pads. Fitting a desk pad is rather simple and should be done so not to purchase a pad that is too large or too small for the space. Other considerations are color, material and price. To fit a desk pad, you'll need only a couple of things.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the dimensions of your desk. You'll need to know how wide and deep the desktop is to purchase an appropriate-sized desk pad. Some desks are 5 to 6 feet wide by 2 to 3 feet deep. Others are slightly smaller, measuring only 4 feet wide by 2 feet wide. Still others are larger, having a desktop size of 6 feet wide and 4 feet deep.

    • 2

Measure the work space on your desk. This is the area where the seat meets the desk and the area where you normally write and type. It should be free of any supplies, computer components and decor. This area is about one-third of the size of your total desktop space. It's also where your desk pad will be situated.

    • 3

Purchase a desk pad that fits into your work space and does not overlap on one side or the other. The desk pad's size should be smaller than one-third of the total desktop space and be able to fit neatly into your work space.

Place the pad onto your desk and center it up with your working space. The desk pad should align with the edge of the desk where the chair sits and accommodate your keyboard. Place your monitor just behind the desk pad and your computer peripherals to the sides, such as speakers, printer/scanner and other storage and supplies.
