How to Decorate a Home Desk

Make an old wooden desk set match by gluing some decoupage designs onto your bookcase, file cabinet and chair. Choose a graphic that reflects you or your home business. For example, if you run a travel business or just like to travel, paste old maps onto your furniture items. Add a coat of glue mixed with equal parts water over the top of your furniture pieces to create a shiny seal. Apply the decoupage to any pieces that go with the desk.

Find, or have cut, a piece of Plexiglas that's the same size as your desktop. Display your family photos underneath the glass. This allows you to show off your photos in a way other than to hang them up on the wall in frames.

Choose some interesting bookends for your desk. Try some that feature miniature globes, praying hands or a sculpture. Keep your business books between these bookends.

Create a tea or coffee stash and keep self-warming pot close by your desk on a roll-away cart. The self-warming pot will heat the water once you plug it in. Store your tea and coffee in decorative canisters that match your desk's decor.

Hang a French memo board above your desk to help you keep track of notes to yourself, business cards, photos of professional events and ideas for your business.

Provide an extra chair or two in case you have clients that visit your home office. Make sure these match your desk as well.

Add a desk lamp to your desk. If you have a desk that features a two-tier design, place the lamp on the top tier; your light coverage will be better.

Hang artwork above your desk. Pick one that fits the theme of the room or your business personality. For example, if your home desk is in the kitchen, hang up some illustrations of vegetables or wooden antique advertising signs for local farms.
