How to Adjust the Face Screws in a Drawer

Face screws are the two screws on the inside front panel of a desk or dresser drawer. The screws hold the drawer front to the sides of the drawer box. Loosening these screws enables you to adjust the face plate so the drawer aligns with the drawers above and below it, or to either side. This eliminates unattractive gaps between the drawers. Use a screwdriver for these adjustments to fine furniture.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the drawer open and push to close. Note any gaps between the drawer front and the drawers adjacent to it. For example, if there is a gap on the bottom edge of the drawer, the face plate needs to be lowered slightly.

    • 2

Measure the gap with a tape measure.

    • 3

Pull out and remove the drawer.

    • 4

Loosen the two screws on the inside of the drawer face plate where it attaches to the drawer sides.

    • 5

Slide the face plate to the correct position, based on your measurements in step 2.

    • 6

Tighten the face screws and reinstall the drawer.
