How to Make a Desk out of Pipe

Pipe is a reliable material that any individual can incorporate into an interior design for a more modern and industrial appearance. Piping works exceptionally well for furniture due to its strength and durability. To create a reliable work area, consider using pipes as the support system for a desk. The desk takes less than an hour to make, but it will continue to provide an attractive and reliable work area for many years.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the plywood on a flat surface. Position one flange in each corner. Line the outer sides of the flanges with the outer edges of the plywood for a snug fit. Drive one 3/4-inch screw through each hole in each flange to secure them to the plywood.

    • 2

Wrap plumber's tape around the pipe end and screw one 14-inch straight pipe section into each flange. Continue to turn the pipe until you achieve a secure fit.

    • 3

Wrap the opposite end of the 14-inch pipe with plumber's tape, and screw one single-socket tee on the end of each pipe. The tee should face the leg on the opposite side of the 25-inch plywood edge. Avoid facing toward the legs on the 60-inch edge, as placing bars here would interfere with foot placement.

    • 4

Wrap one end of the remaining four sections of 14-inch straight pipe with plumber's tape. Insert this end into the bottom opening of the socket tee. Continue to twist until you are unable to do so any more.

    • 5

Wrap the end of one 11 1/2-inch straight pipe with plumber's tape and screw the pipe end into the socket tee opening facing the opposite leg. Continue to twist until you are unable to do so. Wrap all open ends on the four 11 1/2-inch straight pipes with plumber's tape.

    • 6

Screw the socket tee onto the two 11 1/2-inch pipes at each end of the desk. This will secure the side legs with one another and create a stronger hold.

    • 7

Wrap both ends of the 58-inch straight pipe with plumber's tape. Insert one end into each of the open socket tee ends in the center of the desk base. Twist the pipe until you no longer are able to twist. This will secure the leg sides with one another and create a sturdy surface.

Flip over the desk structure and rest it upon the four pipe legs.
