Measure the length of the leather couch to determine the size of the body piece of fabric, starting at the floor in front and ending at the floor in back. Measure the width of the leather couch for the body piece of fabric, starting at the far end of the left armrest to the far end of the right armrest. Hold the measuring tape loosely to provide larger measurements, thus giving the cover room to give. Increase the body measurements by 12 inches and write down the measurements.
Measure the arm length of the leather sofa from the floor below the arm and over the armrest to the cushion. Measure the arm or side width from the front of the arm to the rear of the leather couch. Increase the arm measurements by 2 inches and write down the measurements.
Calculate the size for each of the three pieces of the couch cover -- one body piece and two arm pieces. Cut the pieces out of the fabric, making sure to use the adjusted measurements to give room for seam allowances and fabric tucking in the cushions.
Drape the body fabric over the leather couch, and smooth it over the surface. Drape the arm fabric over the arms of the couch. Pin the arm pieces to the body piece in the appropriate location to fit the couch. Match the right sides together so the seams are inside the cover. Sew the pieces together with a 1/2-inch seam on your sewing machine.
Drape the cover over the leather couch so the right side of the fabric is facing the couch. Line up the arm pieces in the appropriate location. Grab the rear edges on one side of the cover, pin them together and repeat on the other rear edge. Grab the edges of one front edge, pin them together and repeat on the other side.
Take the cover off the leather couch and sew the rear and front edges with a 1/2-inch seam. The cover should have the shape of the leather couch.
Hem the bottom edge of the cover by rolling the edge 1/4 inch to the backside of the fabric, followed by another 1/2 inch. Sew the turned edge to finish the hem.
