How to Assemble a Wood Couch

Wood couches offer a great blend of comfort and beauty, ranging in style from farmhouse and log cabin to high style. Despite the various types of wood couches, the general assembly of a wood couch is similar in regard to required steps and tools. Stripped-down versions of the necessary tools often are included in the packaging, but having full-size tools at hand can increase the speed and ease of the assembly process as well as allow for a more secure installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the assembly instructions if they are available, or find the comparable electronic version from the manufacturer's website if assembly instructions are not included. Note the parts list and review the various pieces of the couch that are included in the packaging, paying particular attention to the small attachment hardware. Set attachment hardware such as screws, nuts and pegs in organizational containers to count them.

    • 2

Contact either the retailer or manufacturer of the couch as soon as possible if any pieces are missing.

    • 3

Assemble the pieces of the couch that form each of the arm sections, using whatever attachment method is required by the included hardware. Fasten the hardware together using a screwdriver, Allen wrench, drill or wrench.

    • 4

Assemble the rear of the couch using the same attachment method. Put the seat frame of the couch together as well.

    • 5

Have an assistant hold the rear of the couch to the seat of the couch and attach the sections using the provided attachment hardware and the appropriate tool. Lift this assembled section of the frame up as far as necessary to line it up to one of the arm sections. Attach the frame to the arm section, then repeat with the other arm section to secure all the sections of the frame together.

    • 6

Flip the frame upside down and attach the couch legs to the base of the frame using the installation hardware provided. Return the frame to its upright position. Set the couch cushions and pillows on the couch to complete the assembly.
