Turn the double recliner upside down so its bottom surface is in the air. Pull every visible staple from the underside of the furniture, slowly removing the fabric as you go. Rip any seams necessary to remove the fabric completely from the framework of the double recliner. Cut fabric as a final resort, following seams closely if possible. Leave the fabric attached to the recliner if it is too difficult to remove or if you want the additional stability of another layer of fabric.
Measure the removed fabric or the fabric still attached to the recliners. Calculate the surface area of the fabric and add a full yard to your estimation. Cut out this amount of fabric. Spread the fabric over the main seat portion of the recliner. Tuck it into the crevices and cracks around the edges of the seats. Fasten the fabric tightly to the seat by stapling it in place deep within these cracks, putting the staples into any frame boards that can be felt.
Stretch the fabric tightly over the arm rests of the recliner and staple them in place underneath the recliner a few times to hold the fabric tightly. Open and extend the feet rests of each recliner.
Cut the fabric about 4 inches past the first footrest section. Fold this fabric underneath the first footrest section on three sides and staple it to the back of the footrest section. Cut out additional pieces for the other footrest sections and attach them in the same way with the staples on the rear of the footrest piece. Tuck under any exposed fabric edges and staple them securely.
Cut the fabric to wrap around the backrests of the recliner and wrap them tightly, overlapping all seams substantially. Fasten the fabric to the backrests wherever possible on the frame, tucking all rough edges underneath before stapling. Stretch the fabric back underneath the recliner.
Flip the recliner back upside down and stretch the excess fabric taut underneath. Staple the fabric in place about 4 inches from the outside edge of the recliner, spacing the staples every 4 inches around the frame. Cut off extra fabric with the scissors.
Measure the dimensions of each surface on the double recliner and write them down. Do not measure the bottom surface. Cut out a piece of fabric that matches each set of dimensions plus 1 inch on both width and length, excluding the bottom surface.
Set each adjoining piece on top of each other, with the good sides facing each other and the adjoining seam even. Sew a 1/4-inch hem all along the shared seam. Repeat with each additional surface until you have the entire couch cover, inside out. Do not attach a bottom section.
Sew Velcro all along the edges of the cover, where it will contact the bottom surface.
Turn the cover inside out and stretch it over the double recliner. Pull the fabric under the couch tightly and mark the location of the Velcro. Staple Velcro strips of the opposing type to the bottom surface at these markings and secure the cover in place.
