DIY Love Seat Slipcover

If your love seat has been around for a while or if you're just sick of looking at its pattern design, it might be time to buy a new slipcover and make the entire piece of furniture look new. While you can buy whole slipcover sets or have one made for you, creating one yourself is relatively simple as long as you have a tape measure and know how to sew.
  1. Preparation

    • Remove all pillows and cushions from the love seat. Starting at the bottom back of the love seat, measure the length up and around all the way to the bottom front of the love seat. Write down that measurement, as well as the length of the entire love seat; these are the dimensions you'll need for your first piece of fabric.

Next, measure from a bottom side, up and around the arm, across the seats, up and around the other arm, and to the bottom of the other side. Write down that dimension, as well as the width of the entire love seat; these are the dimensions you'll need for the second piece of fabric. Add 5 to 10 inches to each measurement for room to sew the pieces together and create hems where necessary.

Next, measure all pillows and cushions on the love seat and write down those measurements.

    Fabric

    • Go to a fabric store or search online for the type of fabric you want. Look at medium-weight fabrics and buy as much as you need according to your measurements. If you can't decide, remember that you could always mix and match patterns for different effects. It's your slipcover; make it the way you want it.

    Putting It All Together

    • Drape the two largest pieces of fabric over the love seat and smooth them out until they adhere tightly to the love seat's shape. At the back and front corners of the love seat, the two lengths of fabric will have overlapping material; pin the pieces together as tightly as possible. Once the fabric covers the entire love seat in as tight a manner as possible, sew the fabric pieces to each other wherever they meet or intersect. You may also want to secure the newly-created slipcover to the bottom of your love seat with pins or staples.

After the foundation is all set, the only thing you have to do is sew the remaining fabric around the cushions and pillows. Then you'll end up with your very own do-it-yourself love seat slipcover.
