How to Clean a Leather Couch With Aniline Dye

Aniline-dyed leather couches, often recognized by their soft, matte surface, stain easily, as they contain no protective barriers or pigments. Never use water or harsh chemicals on aniline-dyed leather couches, as they can spot and damage the material. Use a mild foaming cleaner and leather protection cream to build up a barrier and prevent stains from setting in.

Instructions

    • 1

Move the aniline leather couch out from the wall if necessary. Take off any removable cushions or pillows, and set them aside.

    • 2

Pour leather cleaner into a foaming bottle, or apply it to a sponge and squeeze it until a foam appears. Use the amount specified on the package directions.

    • 3

Clean the couch with the foam and a sponge from top to bottom, front to back. Scrub the leather in a gentle, circular motion. Use a tampico brush on very dirty areas.

    • 4

Clean the cushions on all sides with the foam and a brush or sponge. Wipe off excess dirt from the couch and cushions with a clean cloth. Allow the leather to air dry for one to two hours.

    • 5

Apply leather protection cream to a soft cloth, using the amount specified by the manufacturer. Apply the cream evenly to the couch and cushions. Remove any excess cream with a clean section of the cloth.

Move the couch into its original position and replace the cushions or pillows.
