Certain materials are especially susceptible to static electricity. Frequently known as just static, this force occurs when the atoms that make up materials lose their electricity to other materials. When a person has extra electricity, he may experience a shock when touching materials such as microfiber, carpet or a door knob. In addition to this, static can cause materials to stick together (static cling), as is the case when a microfiber couch comes into contact with hair, lint or animal fur. Fortunately, removing the static is simple.
