How to Repair a Cracked Leather Sofa

Sub-Patch Repair

  Inspect the crack to determine how wide it is. Use your fingers to carefully spread it open.

  Apply a thin layer of leather filler using a palette knife; making sure it only seeps into the crack. Allow it to dry for 5 minutes.

  Use scissors to cut a piece of sub-patch big enough to cover the crack. Make sure the length and width of the crack are completely covered.

  Apply leather or garment glue to the crack and place the sub-patch over it. Press firmly to adhere the sub-patch to the glue. Do not allow the patch to move or slip; hold it steadfast to the leather sofa until it dries.

Leather Filler Repair

  Find the crack on the leather sofa and spread it apart with your fingers to determine its size and depth.

  Squeeze leather filler into the crack, filling it. Use a palette knife to spread the leather filler evenly over the crack. Allow to dry for 5 minutes.

  Sand the hardened leather filler gently using 1200 grit sandpaper. Do this until the area feels smooth.

  Shake the bottle of leather furniture colorant vigorously to ensure it is well mixed. Pour 2 to 3 drops of colorant on the sponge and apply to the crack using a light pressure to make sure the color works into the grain of the leather.

  Allow the colorant to air dry.
