How to Repair a Vinyl Couch

Your vinyl couch has served you well over the years, but it is beginning to show its age. It may have a few tears from general wear and/or misplaced sharp objects. If you are a thrifty sort of person, repair the vinyl couch instead of setting in on the curb and getting a new one.

Things You'll Need

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Cotton balls
  • Scissors
  • Plain fabric (size determined by repair area)
  • Vinyl adhesive
  • Matching vinyl (size determined by repair area)

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the torn area of the vinyl couch with the rubbing alcohol and cotton balls.

    • 2

Trim away any loose vinyl and/or hanging threads from the damaged area.

    • 3

Stuff as many cotton balls as necessary into the tear so that the damaged area is level with the rest of the vinyl couch.

    • 4

Cut a large enough piece of plain fabric to cover the tear from the inside. Place it inside the tear. Carefully dab vinyl adhesive on the inside of the tear, then press down to attach the fabric to the vinyl couch.

    • 5

Cut a large enough piece of matching vinyl to conceal the tear. Dab adhesive on the backside of the vinyl piece and place it on the area, pushing down to affix.

    • 6

Let the couch dry overnight before using again.
