Can a Microfiber Couch Use Chem-Dry?

Microfiber is a product invented in the 1970s by a Japanese scientist. The term applies to any fiber with strands having a thickness of less than one denier. Polyester microfibers are less than 10 microns in diameter. Microfiber is now used for many applications, including clothing and furniture.
  1. Furniture

    • Microfiber materials are used as a covering for all types of furniture, including couches, chairs, ottomans, desk chairs, lounges and bean bag chairs. The fabrics are extremely soft and lightweight, and have a luxurious appearance. Because it can be delicate, some homeowners wonder how to clean microfiber furniture when it becomes soiled or stained.

    Chem Dry

    • Chem Dry is a chemical cleaning process that many people use for carpets, but it also provides cleaning services for upholstery. Any furniture that is labeled "Dry Clean Only" can be cleaned safely by Chem Dry, including microfiber furniture.

    Function

    • Some microfiber fabrics are woven and can be washed with water, but others cannot. If a microfiber couch cannot be washed, water-based cleaners, including those used by other professional upholstery cleaning companies, will damage them. Read the label to see if a couch needs dry cleaning. If so, the Chem Dry process is safe for the furniture.
