How to Dye Leather Lounges

Leather tanning is when animal skins or hides are changed into leather. Cows, sheep, and pigs are the most common animals used to make leather. The treated skins absorb tannic acid, which prevents decay. During this tanning process, the hides can be dyed to a desired color. Dyeing hides during the tanning process gives the best results, however, you can dye a leather lounge, especially if it is old and worn. Purchase leather dye and prep your lounge first. Then brush on the dye.

Instructions

    • 1

Vacuum your leather lounge and wipe it afterwards with a damp paper towel. You don't want any dust or grit to end up in the dye.

    • 2

Prep the lounge with the prepping agent using a soft sponge. Apply in circular motions like waxing a car.

    • 3

Wear gloves and brush dye onto your prepped lounge. Use care in painting all surfaces. Wait for it to dry and reapply.

    • 4

Apply rejuvenator oil to condition and seal in the new color. Once it dries, you have a newly-dyed leather lounge.
