Microfiber couches and sofas are a boon to busy parents because they are water and stain resistant. They're not indestructible, though, and eventually show the effects of daily wear and tear. Before cleaning your microfiber couch, test it for color-fastness and shrinking. Wash a small, inconspicuous area of the couch with water and cleaning solution. If color transfers to your cloth, or if the fabric looks tight when dry, you're probably better off using dry cleaning solvents or having the sofa professionally cleaned, advises Michigan State University.

1
Mix 2 teaspoons mild dish detergent and 1 pint warm water in a bowl.
-
2
Dip a sponge or cleaning cloth into the solution and wash the cushions. Avoid scrubbing them vigorously so you don't damage the fabric.
-
-
3
Run the sponge under clean water and rinse any soap residue off the cushions. Open the windows to dry the fabric quickly.

4
Brush the cushion with a soft brush when it is dry. Microfiber fabrics may become stiff after being cleaned. Brushing them will restore softness.
