Check the label on your sofa for a cleanability code. Upholstery Scotchgard is safe for cleanability codes W and W/S. Do not use Scotchgard on fabrics with a cleanability code of X.
Place the sofa on a large drop cloth to protect the floor from overspray.
Spray Scotchgard on the sofa in a small, hidden area. Press a white cloth to the wet Scotchgard to see if the fabric colors bleed onto the cloth. If the color transfers, do not use the product on the sofa. Allow the test area to dry and check for any visible fading or other problems with the fabric. If no noticeable problems are found, proceed with the Scotchgard application to the entire sofa.
Remove the cushions and pillows from the sofa if possible.
Vacuum and clean the sofa thoroughly.
Shake the Scotchgard can and spray the product onto the sofa in slow, even movements holding the can 6 inches from the fabric. Cover the entire surface evenly. Begin with the back of the sofa, move to the arms and then spray both sides of the cushions and pillows.
Allow to dry 24 hours before resuming regular activity.
