Measure the width for the slipcover from the end of the sofa cushion to the opposite side of the sofa arm. Measure the slipcover length from the front of the arm to the point where the sofa back meets the arm. Increase both measurements by 2 inches for the hem.
Create a pattern for the front placket of the slipcover by holding a sheet of paper to the front of the arm and tracing around the arm front. This helps you get a good fit for the slipcover, especially for a curved arm.
Pin the slipcover front pattern to the fabric and cut out one piece for each arm; two pieces total. Cut out the body of the slipcover using the width and length measurements from Step 1.
Pin the front long edge of the slipcover body to the front placket with right sides of the fabric together. Ease the fabric along the curve and make small tucks in the body fabric, if needed. Sew the two pieces together with a 1/2-inch seam.
Slide the slipcover onto the sofa arm to verify that it fits properly. Make adjustments by taking in or letting out the seam. Finish the seams using a serger machine or a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to prevent fraying once you are satisfied with the fit.
Turn under the bottom edge of the slipcover 1/4-inch and another 1/4-inch to create a clean hem. Sew the hem close to the inside edge to hold it in place.
