How to Make Your Couch Into a Firm Bed

For those still slender enough to sleep comfortably on a couch, the biggest obstacle is usually how soft it is. Many couches are built plush and deep, lending zero back support -- leading to an uncomfortable night and a sore back in the morning. Fortunately, you can add some support beneath the cushions in an easy and removable project that can covert that too-soft sitting space into a firm sleeping area.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cushions from your sofa. Measure the width and length of the space beneath.

    • 2

Acquire puzzle mats sufficient to cover the dimensions you measured. You can buy puzzle mats in different levels of hardness. For something a little firmer, use gymnastics grade mats. If you like a hard surface, use the mats rated for garage floors.

    • 3

Cut the puzzle mats to match your couch exactly. Most puzzle mats are approximately 3 feet, 4 inches per side.

    • 4

Set the puzzle mat pieces in place on your couch. Place the cushions on top of them.
