How to Repair a Peeling Leather Coach

For most people, the couch is one of the centerpieces of the living room. A leather couch usually looks comfortable and luxurious, but if the leather starts to peel, it can make the couch, and sometimes the room, look dated and scruffy. It is possible to fix a leather sofa that has begun to peel, extending the life of your couch considerably. The fix works best if done as soon as you notice the peeling, and should return the sofa to its former pristine state.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the peeling area with a sponge dipped in warm soapy water. This removes any dirt or debris and prepares the sofa for fixing.

    • 2

Dry the area thoroughly with a dry towel.

    • 3

Dip a nylon scrub pad into the warm soapy water and lightly scrub the area in circular motions. This scuffs the sofa, which helps the dye to stick. Dry the area again with the towel.

    • 4

Pour denatured alcohol onto a paper towel, and wipe down the peeling area. Ensure the whole area is covered, and allow to dry naturally.

    • 5

Dip sandpaper into the soapy water and wet-sand the peeling area. Remove any debris with the sponge, and dry with a towel.

    • 6

Spray the leather preparation spray onto the area and rub in. Check your leather preparation spray for instructions before you use, as some do not need to be washed off. Pat the sofa dry using a paper towel.

    • 7

Spray the leather dye onto the area. Spray a light layer, and allow to dry, either naturally or using a hair dryer. Once completely dry, apply another light layer. This ensures the dye cannot be detected from the color of the sofa, and will look natural.

Allow the couch to dry for at least 8 hours before sitting on the sofa.
