How to Put a Slip Cover on a Couch

Sofas suffer a lot of wear and tear from frequent use over the years, especially in homes with young children. Eventually, a buildup of permanent stains from spilled food and drinks may make the couch unsightly. However, you do not have to throw the sofa out for a new one. If it is still comfortable and structurally sound, it is still useful. Give your sofa a fresh appearance with a slipcover in minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove throw pillows and personal effects from the sofa. Pull the sofa away from the wall. There should be enough space behind it for you to work.

    • 2

Drape the cover on the sofa from the front and pull the back of the cover over the back of the sofa and down to the legs. Refer to the diagram or instructions included in the packaging to determine the front and back sections of the cover.

    • 3

Adjust the arms of the slipcover so it sits properly on the arms of the sofa. Let any excess fabric fall on the side of the arm next to the seat cushions.

    • 4

Tuck the excess fabric from the arms of the cover deep into the sides of the seat with a wooden spoon. Pull the fabric on the seat taut and tuck the excess fabric into both sides of the seat.

    • 5

Tie any ties at the legs of the sofa to further secure the slipcover.
