How to Clean the Ikea Klobo

The Ikea "Klobo" is a cream-color sofa with a 100-percent cotton cover. Its internal padding is made of polyurethane foam and polyester wadding. The sofa's feet are manufactured from Polypropylene plastic and the internal springs are manufactured from steel. Ikea recommends the use of upholstery shampoo to deep clean the sofa. However, if you have a vapor steam cleaner, you can avoid using chemicals.

Instructions

  1. Regular Cleaning

    • 1

Remove crumbs and other debris from your Klobo sofa on a daily basis. Use either a handheld vacuum or a dustpan and brush. Check the sofa regularly for any debris that could damage it. To avoid stains, immediately clean up any spills. Keep the sofa as dry as possible.

    • 2

Vacuum the sofa thoroughly every week. Use the dusting brush attachment and go over the entire surface. The dusting brush will loosen any crumbs or debris stuck to the sofa, allowing the suction to remove it. Bristles will prevent the suction from pulling on the sofa cover. Use a crevice nozzle on the vacuum to clean the gap between the arms and the seat.

    • 3

Move the sofa to one side. Vacuum the floor before sliding sofa back into position.

    • 4

Wipe the sofa's feet with a damp microfiber cloth that has been dipped in a solution of warm water and mild detergent. This will remove marks and smears.

    Using Upholstery Shampoo

    • 5

Vacuum the sofa to remove all loose dirt and debris.

    • 6

Test the upholstery shampoo you are going to use on an inconspicuous area of the sofa. The easiest shampoos to use come in a pressurised can with a brush attached. Release a small quantity of foam soap. Gently rub it with the brush and then remove the foam and the dirt it has loosened with a spatula. Wipe the area with a damp cloth and pat with a dry towel.

    • 7

Leave the sofa for 10 minutes, then examine the area you have cleaned. If it looks cleaner but is otherwise undamaged, use the shampoo to clean the entire sofa. Treat just one small area at a time.

When you have finished, let the sofa dry.

    • 8

Vacuum the dry sofa to remove any remaining dirt loosened by the shampoo.

    Using a Vapor Steam Cleaner

    • 9

Vacuum the sofa while your steam cleaner is warming up. Wrap a microfiber towel around your vapor steam cleaner's upholstery tool. Direct your steam cleaner's steam gun into a basin and squeeze the trigger until only steam is being produced.

    • 10

Spray steam onto the sofa from a distance of no less than 6 inches.

    • 11

Attach the upholstery tool covered by a microfiber cloth and turn the steam down to low. Press the trigger, and clean the sofa section by section. Mop the surface of each section twice. During the second mopping, the cleaning head should be moved at right angles to the strokes used during the first mopping.

    • 12

Let the sofa -- which should only be damp -- dry.

    • 13

Vacuum the sofa after it's dry.
