Whether you have a couch in a condition that's too poor for repairs, or a sofa that doesn't work for your home decor scheme anymore, you have options when it comes to furniture disposal. Perhaps someone else could have use for your unwanted piece of furniture. If not, you'll need to find an appropriate way to junk the couch that doesn't involve leaving it on a deserted roadside.

  Check with family members, friends, and neighbors to see if anyone needs a couch. If the couch's structure is still good, it can be slipcovered to give it a new look.

  List the couch in the "free" section of an online classifieds site or in a newspaper that offers free goods to others.

  Contact your local Goodwill or Salvation Army and ask about donating your couch. They may even be able to pick it up for you.

  Call a junk hauling service, if no one wants the couch or you can't donate it to an organization. The service can set up a convenient time to pick up the couch, but it will cost you a fee.

  Contact the solid waste services department of your city and inquire about bulk item collection services. Some waste collection services designate one day or week of the month for bulk item collections. These collections normally would cost an additional fee, but there is no extra fee during these designated times.

  Contact the landfill in your area and ask about disposing of your couch. There likely will be a disposal fee, and you will have to find a way to haul the couch there.
