Couches Made of Recyclables

Being eco-friendly has moved from simply recycling and buying green products to changing the way homes are decorated. Couches made from recyclable materials are becoming more common inside and outside houses. Buyers are able to choose from couches made from reclaimed wood, sustainable materials and recycled items such as bathtubs to use as decorating staples in their households.
  1. Tetrad Sofa

    • Tetrad, a British furniture company, was the first company to develop an eco-friendly sofa. The Holmes sofa collection is made of hessian, leather and coconut fiber, making it 100 percent recyclable. Since then, Tetrad has developed the ECO Range, which includes frames made out of sustainable wood, wooden buttons and fabric ties instead of zippers and fabric such as Alpaca wool, linen, ramie and water buffalo hides.

    Reclaimed Wood Sofas

    • Reclaimed wood sofas are made from salvaged wood or trees. The couches range from typical-looking couches with wood frames to unique shapes and designs. Whit McLeod is a furniture company that offers offers the Prairie Settle Collection. The couches and loveseats have a wood frame made from salvaged wine casks and a leather or hemp cushion. Coffin Couches offers a unique take on reclaimed wood sofas by offering couches created from damaged coffins.

    Handmade Sofas

    • Handmade sofas allow buyers to choose the materials to customize an eco-friendly sofa. Most companies that create these handmade sofas are located outside of the United States, but provide shipping options for customers. Interiors Direct UK's Patriot line allows customers to customize sofas made from kiln-dried hardwood and cushions from recyclable fabric that are filled with feathers. Bolia, a Scandinavian furniture company, creates sofas using sustainable wood and 100 percent wool or recyclable polyester for the cushions.

    Outdoor Furniture

    • Indoor sofas are not the only recyclable sofas available. Many eco-friendly sofas are designed for decks, patios and other outdoor areas. Clean Air Gardening offers an outdoor sofa made from recycled high density polyethylene that can withstand rain, wind and snow outdoors. Vivavi, a green furniture company, offers the Maku Sofa for indoor or outdoor use. The frame of the sofa is made from 100 percent reclaimed or plantation teak.
