Take the cushions off the settee. Measure from the top of the inside back (ISB) of the chair down to the inner edge of the seat.
Measure from the top edge of the back of the settee to the bottom edge. This is the outside back measurement (OSB).
Measure the inside arm (ISA) of the settee. Place the tape just under the arm roll outside the settee. Take it over the top of the arm roll and down to the inside edge of the seat.
Place the tape under the arm roll outside the settee. Measure from this point to the bottom of the chair. Also measure the width of this area. This is the outside arm (OSA) measurement.
Measure the length and width of one flat surface of the cushion. Also measure the height of the cushion.
Measure across the front section of the arm roll for the width of the scroll.
Draw a large rectangle on a sheet of paper to represent the upholstery fabric for the settee. Write the width of the fabric at the top of the rectangle.
Draw smaller rectangles within the large rectangle to represent the sections of the settee. Ensure that the size of each rectangle is proportional to the measurement of the section it represents. Draw the longest edge of each rectangle against the left long edge of the large rectangle. Ensure that the rectangles are arranged in a way that utilizes as much of the fabric as possible.
Write the measurement for the long edge of each small rectangle against the left edge of the large rectangle. Add the numbers together. The total is the number of yards of fabric you need for the settee. Add about 25 inches to this number for possible errors.
