Sprinkle baking soda over the top of the sofa, reaching as many upholstered areas as possible. Leave the baking soda sitting on the fabric overnight and vacuum the following day with an upholstery attachment. The baking soda removes any odd smells plaguing the fabric.
Pull the separate sections apart and measure each piece separately, according to the vendor's instructions. Write down the measurements on a sheet of paper. Order custom-made slipcovers for each piece of the sectional sofa, using the measurements for each piece. Make sure that you can purchase extra fabric that you may need in the future for replacements or small repairs.
Slide the slipcover over the largest piece of the sectional sofa. Tuck the ends under the sofa and smooth down the surface with your hands. Adjust the fit as needed, making sure that you completely cover the top and sides. Repeat the process with each additional sofa piece.
Decorate the sofa with throw pillows and throw blankets that match the decor or style of your room. Arrange a few pillows at each end and drape a comfortable blanket across the back.
Move the sofa pieces to different areas of the room. Use an end piece as a chaise lounge under one window and use the opposite end as a bench style couch for the center of the room.
