How to Add Storage to a Sofa

Finding storage in a small house or apartment is sometimes difficult, particularly if the unit is lacking in closets or you simply have a lot of stuff. However, you can add storage around the house by filling all the nooks and crannies, even those around your couch. Keep items like magazines, books, remote controls and blankets handy by storing them nearby.

  Slide bins under the couch to use for storage. Many slim storage bins are available and come in materials like plastic, fabric, wicker and metal. Measure the height of the space under your couch to ensure you get the right bins.

  Add an armrest organizer to one or both of the couch's armrests. These organizers come with little pouches to hold remotes, books and magazines. Some organizers even have a flat tray on top for holding snacks and drinks.

  Buy low shelves or a sofa table to fit around the sides and back of the couch. Measure the couch first and choose the lowest shelves that fit. Couch backs are on an angle, so if your shelves are too high they will not fit snugly against the couch. Fill the shelves with books and other treasures.
