How to Decorate a Room With a Fainting Couch

Decorating a room with a fainting couch gives it an old-fashioned or Victorian appeal, depending on the other decor in the room. It may also be covered in leather or other materials for use with traditional or contemporary styles. A fainting couch allows a person to lounge with her legs up. It has a raised back that may extend along one side as well. The couch enables the homeowner to create an area to relax, watch TV, read or just while away the hours with a box of bonbons and idle thoughts.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the fainting couch near a window with a view, or where you can easily see a television set, the fireplace or another focal point in the room.

    • 2

Add a small table beside the fainting couch. This provides a place to set your reading glasses, a beverage or a book. Match the type of table and other decor to the style of the couch and the rest of the room. For instance, if the couch is a Victorian style, set a white wicker table next to it. If the couch is modernistic, a glass and steel occasional table works well.

    • 3

Set a reading lamp, a flower arrangement, a sculpture or other attractive decor on the table to create an intimate setting.

    • 4

Add a small area rug beside the fainting couch. This helps to further differentiate the sitting area from the other sections of the room.

    • 5

Place an attractive magazine rack or wicker basket beside the fainting couch to hold reading material, a remote control for your TV or craft supplies.
