How to Get Dog Scratches Off of a Leather Couch

Furniture makers have used leather as upholstery since ancient times, but your leather sofa doesn’t have to look like it predates the Common Era. Scratches from your dog’s claws can give your couch a tired, worn out look. You can fix scratch marks to restore your leather’s luster and make your couch look brand new.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrub your leather couch on and around the scratch to clear away dirt and determine how extensive the mark is. Dampen a soft cloth with lukewarm water. Rub the cloth over the scratch several times to clean the area. Blot the spot with a soft cloth.

    • 2

Apply a pea-sized drop of leather scratch remover to your fingertip, wearing rubber gloves to protect your hands.

    • 3

Dab the leather scratch remover on the scratch and over the surrounding area.

    • 4

Let the scratch remover dry. Do not rub or buff the scratch. As the scratch remover works over several hours, it will pull dye from surrounding leather into the scratch to cover the flaw.

Apply leather protection cream to the scratch and the surrounding area with a soft, dry cloth once the scratch remover dries. Wipe the protectant on evenly.
