Disassembling of a Lazyboy Sofa

When moving your La-Z-Boy sofa to another room, it’s a better idea to disassemble or dismantle the piece instead of forcing it through a tight doorway, hallway or stairway. Specially designed for easy use, maintenance and repair, disassembling the La-Z-Boy sofa is a relatively simple and straightforward procedure. Make a rough sketch of the recliner, or take a digital photo before disassembling the recliner -- so you know where each piece goes during its assembly.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the slipcover, pillows or cushions from the La-Z-Boy sofa and set them aside. Assign an assistant to help you push the sofa several feet away from the wall to prevent damaging it.

    • 2

Slide your fingers between the tiny gap between the base of the recliner and its back to locate the levers on each side. Grasp the levers and rotate them upward to release the back cushion. Alternatively, slide a flat-head screwdriver in the gap and release them upward.

    • 3

Hold the back cushion and gently tug it upward so it slides out from the clips that join it to the base of the sofa. Set this back piece aside.

    • 4

Assign the assistant to help you turn the sofa over, exposing its lower framework. Look for metal brackets on each side of the sofa, along its front, that join the arm to the seat cushion. Position the tip of a screwdriver against each screw and turn it in a counterclockwise pattern to release it. Place the screws in a zipper bag or container.

    • 5

Pull the metal brackets from where you removed the screws outward, toward the center of the sofa’s base. Turn the sofa upright so it rests on its base.

    • 6

Pull up on the seat base at the front, and locate the screws that join the lower back of the seat to the two arms. Remove the screws in a counterclockwise pattern using a screwdriver. Set the screws aside before lifting the sofa’s seat cushion from the base of the frame. Set the seat cushion aside.

    • 7

Locate the two screws that hold the arm to the base of the sofa. If required, turn the sofa over to reveal its base, so you can easily locate the screws. Remove the screws in a counterclockwise pattern, using a screwdriver. Position the sofa back upright over its base.

Grasp an arm of the sofa and tug it upward to release it from the frame. Set the arm aside and repeat the process for releasing the other arm from the frame.
