How to Dye a White Leather Couch

A white leather couch serves as a great focal piece for a living room. But as the leather ages, it can discolor due to UV exposure through your windows or other environmental factors. Years after you purchase a white leather couch, you may wish to dye it back to its original shade, or even dye it a darker color to match new furniture pieces. While the process of changing your couch's color can take over a day, the process itself is relatively straightforward.

Instructions

Double-check to ensure that your selected dye will work with your couch's upholstery. Leather dye/colorants are formulated to work with both aniline leather and regular leather, so choose a variety that matches the material used to make your couch.

Rub down your couch using the leather cleaner and a clean rag. Wipe away the excess cleaner from the surface with another dry rag if needed.

    • 3

Pour the color into a spray bottle and apply the color to the leather. Repeat until the desired level of color saturation has been achieved. Spray a very fine mist to prevent the dye from running.

Allow the couch to dry overnight. If you need to speed up the drying process, you can use a hairdryer on the lowest setting.

    • 5

Rub leather conditioner on to the couch with a soft cloth. This prolongs the life of the leather and prevents it from fading.
