Can You Put Two Identical Sofas in a Room Together?

Decorating a living room can be challenging, especially if you find the couch you absolutely must have, only to discover that it is a discontinued item or that the manufacturer never made any other pieces of furniture that matched it. If you cannot get a matching chair or loveseat but still need the additional seating, you may want to consider buying an identical sofa so that you will have matched seating.
  1. The Basic Idea

    • As long as you can fit both of your identical couches into the living room, it is certainly possible to do so. However, since you probably do not want to be sitting knee to knee with the people on the other couch or blinded by the overwhelming colors of two large Hawaiian print sofas, you need to realize that not all sofas are good candidates for doubling. Whether or not you can create an attractive living room decor with two identical couches depends on several different aspects of your room design.

    Space

    • The most important issue with putting two sofas in the same room is space. Sofas can be quite large, which is why additional seating normally consists of smaller items such as chairs and loveseats. The living room needs to be large enough to fit both couches comfortably without giving the appearance of being cramped or having too much furniture in a room.

    Color

    • If the sofas are brightly colored or have noticeable prints on them, you may not want to have two of them in a room together because it will be a bit visually overwhelming. The best sofas to double in a room are those that are generally unobtrusive and do not draw a significant amount of attention to themselves.

    Style and Design

    • Two smaller sofas may work well together in a room, but unless your living room bears a resemblance to a bus terminal, two sectionals will probably not have the same effect. Sofas with a modern or compact design will normally work together better than overstuffed sofas or sectionals.
