Select the sofa connectors best suited for your sectional sofa. Pick a pivoting model that allows you to swing the connecting fork or the female part of the sofa snap out of the way if you need to install the fork on the side of a section that may be arranged as an outside piece of furniture. If the fork protrudes, you could bump it with your leg. Otherwise, choose a non-pivoting fork.
Tip two sofa sections forward to expose their bottoms. Push the two pieces as close together as possible. Mark the location where you intend to install sofa connectors on each piece.
Pull away the staples holding the underpinning in place. This is the lightweight fabric that covers the frame. Remove the staples with a pair of pliers or a screwdriver.
Drill pilot holes into the frame of one section of the sofa with a 1/16-inch bit for the location of the male sofa connector. Attach it to the frame with the screws that come with the sofa connector.
Match the corresponding location on the adjacent section of the sofa. Drill pilot holes for the female connector. Attach the female sofa connector with screws from the assembly kit.
Push the two pieces of furniture together until the connectors lock together. Staple the underpinning back in place. Turn the sofa pieces back onto their legs.
Add additional sofa connectors to the remaining pieces of the sectional sofa. Disconnect pieces, as necessary, to make it easier to work with two sections at a time.
