How to Build Bar Stools With Four Legs

A basic bar stool can add extra seating to small areas in your home. It provides space at a small counter for quick meals and creates a modern style in any room. While you can buy bar stools in department stores, it's not hard to build one on your own and requires few woodworking skills. Once your wood pieces are cut, you can build bar stools with four legs in just about an hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Arrange two of the 10-inch boards parallel to one another spaced 10 inches apart resting on their 1-inch width. Set two 12-inch boards on their 1-inch width perpendicular to the 10-inch boards at each end to form a square. Insert two evenly spaced screws through the 12-inch boards and into each end of the 10-inch boards to secure them.

    • 2

Stand the 30-inch boards upright. Place one board along each inside corner of the square. Make the corner flush and allow the legs to extend into the air. Insert two screws through each side of the corners and into the stool leg to secure it. Flip the stool over to rest upright.

Repeat Step 1 to make a second square. Slip the legs of the stool through the second frame and bring the square level 1 foot above the floor. Drill through the second square and into the legs twice at each corner to secure the stool’s rungs.

Set the 1-foot-square board on the ground. Turn the stool upside down and set it over the board. Align the edges to make it flush. Space an elbow bracket along each side on the inside of the top square frame to touch both the frame and the board. Secure the brackets with screws.

Flip the unit upright. Sand, stain, and paint the bar stool as desired before putting it where you want it in your home. Repeat all of the steps to make multiple stools.
