How to Lacquer a Woven Seat

Woven furniture’s nooks and crannies may make it seem impossible to coat. However, woven furniture seats take lacquer as well as do other furniture pieces. The keys are thin coats of lacquer. A fine spray lets you coat the woven seat’s nooks and crannies with a thin layer without clogging any of the weave that gives the seat its character.

Instructions

    • 1

Dust the woven seat with a natural-bristle brush or vacuum it with the brush/hose attachment. Blow dust out of the nooks and crannies with canned air.

    • 2

Wash the furniture with a sponge dampened with soapy water. A soapy toothbrush cleans the weave. Wipe the cushion dry immediately. Let the seat air dry overnight before painting.

    • 3

Paint the woven seat with a thin coat of spray lacquer. Keep the spray can's nozzle 10 inches away from the seat. Paint it in even rows with long, steady, side-to-side movements. Overlap each row slightly.

Let the layer dry for time recommended by the lacquer's label before handling the cushion. Add a second coat if desired after drying. Do not let anyone use the seat for at least 48 hours.
