DIY Throne Chairs

Whether you want to add accent to a princess room or include a special piece for a princess party, a throne chair fits the bill. Instead of spending lots of money on a store-bought throne chair or building a chair from scratch, modify an existing chair using supplies from the craft and home improvement store with little effort. Choose fabrics and ribbons to match your party or room's color scheme, making a custom chair for a queen.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the back of a chair. Cut a rectangle from 1/2-inch plywood. Make it as wide as and 12 inches taller than the back.

    • 2

Place the plywood piece against the back of a chair, resting the bottom edge on the seat of the chair. Place strips of masking tape on the front of the plywood piece and wrap them around to the back of the chair to secure them. Use five pieces of tape on either side of the chair, spacing them evenly along the back of the chair.

    • 3

Place a chair cushion on the seat of the chair. If the cushion has ties, tie them to the chair. If not, cut a piece of non-slip shelf paper to the dimensions of the seat of the chair. Place the shelf paper between the cushion and chair’s seat.

    • 4

Place a large piece of solid-colored fabric over the chair and plywood. The size of the fabric depends on the size of the chair and plywood used. Make sure the fabric covers the entire chair and reaches the floor.

    • 5

Place a piece of organza or tulle over the top of the chair that is the same size as the fabric you used. Adjust the fabric and organza so that they follow the shape of the chair.

    • 6

Tie a piece of 1-inch ribbon around the chair to secure the organza and fabric. Use ribbon that wraps around the entire chair back plus 3-feet. Place the ribbon around the base of the chair back. Tie the ribbon into a bow behind the chair back.
