Set out two 36-inch 2-by-4 boards, parallel with each other, with their large sides facing up. Put two 18-inch 2-by-4 boards on top of them, perpendicular to the first two, with their large sides touching so that the corners are overlapping. Position the four boards so that they make an 18-by-36-inch rectangular frame.
Drill two 2 1/2-inch wood screws through each corner of the frame, through the top board and into the bottom board.
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 to create a second frame; these will be the leg supports of the lounge chair.
Set the two leg supports upright and parallel, 24 inches apart from one another with their 36-inch sides on the ground. Suspend two 24-inch 2-by-4 boards against the 18-inch sides of the leg supports, with their large faces against the long, thin sides of the 18-inch boards. Position them roughly in the center of the 18-inch boards. Drill two 2 1/2-inch screws through each 24-inch board and into each leg support to make a roughly 24-inch, square chair frame.
Position a 36-inch 2-by-4 board against the outside of a leg frame at a 45-degree angle, very near to the 18-inch end of the leg support. Drill two 2 1/2-inch wood screws through this angled board and into each of the horizontal leg support boards. Repeat on the outside surface of the other leg support to install a matching angled board.
Use a tape measure to determine the length of the 2-by-4 boards on the top of the leg supports. Cut a plywood board to the same length and width as the top area of the 2-by-4s. Attach the plywood board to the top of the 2-by-4s with 2 1/2-inch wood screws spaced every 12 inches. Repeat to measure and attach a plywood board to the top surface of the angled boards.
