Turn the chair around and look at the back. You must stop the back of the chair from reclining into a lower position. Find where the back of the chair meets the seat. Lay a four-hole flat bracket so that two holes touch the back and two holes touch the seat.
Sink a 2-inch wood screw into one of the holes on the seat until the screw sits flush with the chair. Sink a wood screw through each hole in the bracket and into the chair. Lay the other brackets across the chair and attach with wood screws.
Flip the chair upside down and examine the rocking mechanism underneath. The chair will either feature long metal gliders or smaller mechanisms, similar to wheels. Find the screws holding the mechanisms to the chair and remove with a screwdriver. Turn the chair upside down again and it should sit flat on the floor without rocking.
Attach a 3-inch corner bracket to the inside of the footrest. The footrest or footstool sits flush with the chair frame. Place the corner bracket so that one side sits on the footstool and one side touches the chair frame. Sink 2-inch wood screws through the holes in the bracket and into the wood frame. Attach a second bracket on the other edge of the footstool.
Cover the lever or handle of the rocker recliner with a C-bracket. A C-bracket has a C shape with a small piece of metal on each side. Screw a 1-inch screw through each side of the bracket and into the chair frame, which will keep the handle from moving.
