How to Lubricate a Piston in a Lane Recliner Chair

Over time, Lane Recliners and other reclining chairs will begin to squeak and make noise due to the wear of the internal mechanisms. Also, the nuts and bolts will loosen, which will also cause the chair to make excessive noise. Lane Recliners, as well as other brands of chairs, may be lubricated to minimize the excess sound. For Lane Recliners, the piston will be lubricated. In addition, check all nuts and bolts and tighten as needed to reduce excess sound.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit in the recliner and recline in the chair. Ensure the chair is fully extended.

    • 2

Exit the chair and tilt the chair onto its side. The piston will be extended and visible.

    • 3

Place the old towel or rag behind the piston mechanism to keep the lubricant from spraying onto the chairs fabric or leather.

    • 4

Spray WD-40 or cooking spray onto the piston all around the mechanism. Wipe any excess lubricant from other parts of the chair.

    • 5

Tighten all bolts and screws while the chair is in the prone position.

    • 6

Set the chair upright, sit in the chair and move the foot piece back into sitting position.

    • 7

Extend the chair and then retract the foot piece a few times to work the lubricant into the piston shaft.

    • 8

      Repeat the process, if necessary.
