How to Remove a Foot Rest From a Wheelchair

Since people come in all shapes and sizes, and need to use wheelchairs for different reasons, it's important that wheelchairs are customizable for each individual. This is especially true when it comes to the foot rests. Some people, such as those who have little to no movement in their legs, may always need to use their foot rests. Others may never use them at all. For this reason, you should know how to remove the foot rests when they're not in use.

Instructions

    • 1

Release the foot lock. The method to release the lock will vary depending on your type of wheelchair. Some chairs require you to push the lever inward, and others may require you to pull the lever forward toward the front of the chair.

    • 2

Grab the foot rest with your hand and rotate it outward as far as it will reach. The foot rest should end up perpendicular with the chair.

    • 3

Lift up the foot rest, and remove it completely from the wheelchair.

    • 4

Repeat the same process for the other side.
