How to Repair a Regency Carrera Black Leather Executive Chair

A Regency Carrera Black Leather Executive Chair is a large office chair that may, with extended use, become weak or damaged. Office equipment can pierce or scratch the leather surface, and constant use of the chair can weaken its joints. Use leather cleaner to remove any dirt and oil and inspect the chair for signs of damage so you know what you need to repair before starting.

Instructions

  1. Hardware Repair

    • 1

Flip the chair upside down and place on the floor. Inspect the screws holding the arm pieces in place against the chair seat. Tighten any loose screws on the chair with a Phillips screwdriver.

    • 2

Replace missing screws with 1/2-inch Phillips screws that have flat tips. Sharp tips can damage the leather and may cause injuries when using the chair.

    • 3

Inspect the joint between the chair seat and the chair rollers. Tighten this joint with a wrench to ensure the seat will not fall off the rollers. If the chair is turned too often in a counter-clockwise direction, the seat can fall off.

    • 4

Tighten the joints between the chair legs and the cylinder attached to the chair seat with a wrench.

    • 5

Inspect the wheels for damage. If damage exists, you will have to order replacement wheels. Any repair done to the wheels, such as gluing, is only a temporary fix. Click the wheels back into place, and flip the chair back over

    Leather Repairs

    • 6

Trim the edges of any tears or holes in the leather so that each tear or cut has clean lines. Sand around the edges of each hole, tear or scratch. This helps the patch bond with the existing leather.

    • 7

Cut a leather patch 1 inch larger than the hole or tear on all sides. Round the edges so the patch cannot catch and peel. Slip the patch under the leather in each hole or tear. Apply a line of glue to the circumference patch about 1/4 of an inch from the edges of the patch to hold it in place beneath the leather.

    • 8

Fill the holes and any scratches in the leather with leather filler. Press a grain patch over the filler while it is still wet to give the filler the texture of leather. Allow the filler to dry for 24 hours.

    • 9

Work black leather dye into the surface of any leather filler to dye the filler to the same color as the rest of the chair. Wipe away excess glue with a soft cloth. Allow the dye to dry for 24 hours.

    • 10

Condition the leather chair with leather conditioner and a soft cloth. Work the conditioner into the leather until the leather is soft and supple.
