Directions to Make a Slip Cover for a Swivel Rocker

A slipcover can add new life and a fresh look to an outdated or older swivel rocker. You can make them yourself and wash them when needed.
  1. Pattern

    • Make a pattern with tissue paper. Tape the tissue paper together if needed and tape it onto each section of your chair. Trace the outline of each section, such as the back, sides, front and seat onto your tissue paper. Add 1 inch to each of the outlines with a straight edge for a seam allowance and room for slipping the cover over the chair.

    Fabric

    • Heavy duty cotton fabric works best for slipcovers, as you can wash them. Wash and dry your fabric and then cut each pattern piece out of your fabric.

    Assemble

    • Pin together the pieces starting with the back. Sew each section as it is pinned, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance and a straight stitch. When all the pieces are sewed together, slip it over your swivel rocker, wrong side out. Fold the bottom edges up toward the wrong side of the fabric and pin in place to create an even hem. Sew your hem in place. Turn right side out and slip over your swivel rocker.
