Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the hammock to be replaced.

    • 2
      A loaded net needle

Load the net needle with twine. Hold the needle with the point facing away from you. Hold the end of the twine to the center of your needle with your thumb. Take the twine up and loop the twine over the pin of the net needle, coming back out the same side of the needle as your thumb. Take the twine down to the bottom of the needle and loop it over the notch on the bottom edge to the other side. Turn the needle over in a clockwise direction with the point staying away from you. Loop the needle around the pin. Repeat this, always turning the needle clockwise until the pin is barely showing.

    • 3

Tie the ring to an anchor point. Tie a piece of nylon twine to one of the steel rings. Tie the other end of the twine to something heavy. This is the ring you will start to knit your hammock from.

    • 4

Tie the free end of the twine on the needle to the anchored ring.

    • 5

Tie the first loop to the ring. Take the mesh stick in your weak hand and the needle in your strong hand. Pull the anchored ring tight with the twine on the needle. Hold the mesh stick lengthwise up to the ring, touching the knot attached to the needle. Bring the twine over the front of the mesh stick and hold the string against the stick with your thumb. Take the twine around the back of the stick and back up between the ring and the stick. The needle should be at the front of the stick. Feed the needle through the ring from front to back. Take the twine back between the ring and the mesh stick so the needle is at the front of the stick.

    • 6

Knot the loop. Make a loose loop of twine big enough for the needle to pass through and hold with your thumb. Pass the needle through the back of the ring and through the loose loop. The needle should be at the front of the mesh stick. Pull firmly on the needle to tighten the knot. Repeat this step to produce a second knot.

    • 7

Tie the first row of loops to the ring. The needle should now be at the front of the mesh stick. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until you have 20 loops on the ring. Be sure you are knitting from left to right if you are right-handed.

    • 8

Slide the mesh stick out of the loops you have tied. Turn the ring over so the nylon attached to the needle is on the left if you are right-handed.

    • 9

Start the second row of loops. Take the nylon over the front of the mesh stick. Take the needle around the back of the stick and feed it through the back of the first loop of the first row. Pull the nylon until the mesh stick is touching the bottom of the first loop.

    • 10

Knot the loop. Make a loose loop of nylon as in step 5. Pass the needle behind the first loop and take it through the loose loop. Pull the nylon tight. Repeat this step to tie a second knot.

    • 11

Repeat steps 9 and 10, tying on to each subsequent free loop from the first row until there are no more free loops. When you run out of nylon tie the loose end to the reel of nylon and load the needle again as in step 2.

    • 12

Repeat steps 9, 10 and 11 until you have enough rows to equal the length you noted in step 1.

    • 13

Tie off the mesh to the second steel ring. Tie onto the loop as in steps 9, 10 and 11. However, when passing the needle around the mesh stick you have to knot the nylon to the second ring. Hold the ring at the bottom edge of the mesh stick. Pass the needle through the front of the ring and pull it back through to the front between the stick and the ring. Make a free loop as before. Pass the needle through the back of the ring and the loop and pull tight. Repeat this knot. Continue tying the top of the loops as in steps 9, 10 and 11 .

    • 14

Cut the nylon when you reach the end of the row. You now have your hammock.

    • 15

Attach the loops to your hammock chair frame.
