How to Sew Plastic Seat Covers for a Kitchen Chair

Kitchens and dining rooms often require a lot of work when it comes time to clean up. Kitchen chairs in particular can gather a lot of food and dirt, staining and damaging the material. A great way to cut down on clean-up time and keep your chairs in optimum condition is to cover them in plastic. You can create your own custom plastic seat covers at home in just a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the chair's seat cushion. If it is attached to the chair, turn the chair upside down and remove any screws with a screwdriver.

    • 2

Remove the staples from the cushion with the screwdriver.

    • 3

Place the cushion upside down onto a sheet of plastic. Fold the sheet around the cushion, pulling all sides firmly so that the plastic on top is wrinkle free and so that each corner is interlocking.

    • 4

Staple each interlocking corner together, and remove the cover from the cushion.

    • 5

Sew the folded corners together with a 7/8 inch seam using a sewing machine.

    • 6

Remove the place-holding staples from each corner and slip the sewn cover over the cushion again.

    • 7

Place the seat onto the chair and reassemble it using the screwdriver and removed screws.
