How to Fix a Hole in a Leather Chair

Dampen a cloth and add a few drops of dish washing liquid. Thoroughly clean the area that you need to repair. Dampen another cloth and wipe the area again to remove any soap residue.

Wipe the area to be repaired with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol to remove any remaining soap or other residue. Allow the area to thoroughly dry before proceeding to the next step.

Apply the repair compound to the hole according to the instructions included with the self-repair kit. This may be water-based or solvent-based paste. Extend the compound at least 1/2 inch around the perimeter of the hole. Allow the compound to dry before proceeding.

Rub the compound with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol or use 600-grit sandpaper to smooth out the compound and make it even with the surrounding leather. Clean the area to remove any debris if you sanded the area. Allow it to dry before proceeding.

Apply the coloring agent to the repair compound if it is included with your leather repair kit, following the included instructions. Apply a light coat of the coloring agent and let it dry before adding the next coat. You can use a hair dryer on a low setting to dry the coats if you want to. Continue to add coats of the coloring agent until the desired color is achieved. Allow the area to fully dry before using the chair.
