Measure the diameter of the chair surface. Stretch the measuring tape across the surface of the chair so that it is split in two equal halves.
Record the distance from the outermost opposite edges of the chair surface. This value, written as D, is the diameter. For example, D = 16 inches.
Divide the diameter in half using your calculator to find the radius, or r, of the chair surface. For example, if r = D/2, then inserting the known diameter from Step 2 yields r = 16/2. Solve for r to obtain 8 inches.
