How to Remove the Back of a Berkline Recliner

Berkline manufacturers a wide range of reclining furniture. Not only is the furniture made for comfort, it is also made for quick disassembly if necessary. When moving recliners through rooms into a new home, it is often necessary to remove the back of a Berkline recliner. The company uses two different methods to attach the back of the recliner to the rest of the unit. Most of their recliners have locking tabs, while a small percentage uses round thumb screws

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the Berkline recliner away from the wall so you have complete access to the back of the chair. Grasp the bottom corners of the fabric or leather backing with your fingers, and lift it away from the recliner. Fold the backing material over the top of the chair.

    • 2

Look down the lower half of the back, halfway between the arms of the recliner and the bottom of the chair, for long metal tabs or round thumb screws. If you have the thumb screws, turn them counterclockwise with your fingers to release the back of the chair.

    • 3

Grab the back of the chair with your fingers on the side of the tabs if you have the more common tab locks. Press the tab locks inward with your fingers while pulling the lower half of the back toward you. This disengages the locking tab.

    • 4

Lift the back of the Berkline recliner straight up and off of the recliner seat.
