How to Keep Rocking Chairs From Scuffing Wood Floors

A rocking chair can take its toll on any hardwood flooring due the back-and-forth motion. Instead of removing the chair, save your floor by applying a simple felt pad and keep it looking attractive and unblemished. Hardwood flooring that has already been scuffed and dented from rocking chair motion can be buffed out by re-coating, which prolongs the life of your hardwood floor for many years to come.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Self-adhesive, heavy-duty felt pads
  • Heavy-duty felt (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your rocking chair over and measure the length and width of your rocking chair runners.

    • 2

Cut self-adhesive, heavy-duty felt pads or regular heavy-duty felt into strips with scissors, according to the runner measurements. Self-adhesive heavy duty felt pads can be found at almost any hardware store.

    • 3

Apply the self-adhesive, heavy-duty felt pads to the rocking chair runners and press until they are set in place. If using non-adhesive, heavy-duty felt, attach by applying a strip of hot glue to the runners and pressing the felt into place. Allow to dry until set.
