Recliner Styles

Recliner chairs date back to 1780 and were designed for reading, writing and studying. They have evolved since then into larger and more comfortable models with added features. Sofas and swivel chairs have been transformed into recliners and some are even electric. A lot of experimenting has led us to the modern recliners of today.
  1. Double Recliner Sofa

    • At first glance the double recliner sofa looks like a standard sofa, but upon further investigation, you'll find that both end sections of the three-sectioned piece recline via manual or electric means. A sofa recliner takes up a lot more space than a single or standard recliner, but it could be the ideal piece for a large family or frequent entertaining.

    Leather Swivel Recliner

    • This is a single chair piece that swivels at the base. It's available in different sizes and often full of additional perks and features. Some of the features available with the leather swivel recliner are heated seats, electric foot adjustment and massage. This chair fits well with other furniture in a living space or as part of office furnishing.

    Electric Recliner

    • Electric recliners can be purchased by and for anyone. Typically they are a stationary single recliner and some have added features such as massage or heat. They offer support for getting in and out of the recliner, elevating high enough to have you standing on your feet without ever getting out of the chair. These recliners are commonly used in medical centers and are wonderful for people with physical limitations.

    Recliner History

    • Recliners began as structures of simple wood and thin cushioning. The foot rest was often a permanent feature and did not collapse. As the years progressed, more cushioning and metal structures were added, and some styles were multifunctional pieces of art. For example artist Friedrich Keisler's (1890-1965) Correalistic Instrument and Rocker served as a recliner, chair, and table, and had 15 other applications.
